Celebrate 2025
FOSL recapped the year of activites we just concluded, including events, the launching of FOSL merch, library programs funded by FOSL, and the updating of the old FOSL by-laws!
- A collage of event photos celebrating the FOSL events of 2025 were sent out
- Events
- Valentine and Wine
- Sumas Days
- Movie in the Park 1
- End of Summer Reading Carnival
- Movie in the Park 2
- BINGO
- Community feedback was great, with many members expressing interest in coming again
- Full capacity, with attendees very happy with the light snacks provided
- A bit of confusion on event start time; use TV to show countdown?
- Shirts and Stickers
- Sumas Drug sold at least 3 shirts!
- Library Programs
- Paint & Connect
- School tote bags
- Trunk or treat
- Tribal storytelling (dream catchers)
- Updated the FOSL by-laws
Budget Review
- For next year, explore FOSL fund for WCLS Sumas to use as needed. Yearly review of available funds with the branch manager
- Monthly and yearly bank/PayPal statements
- Expenses spent for each event
- Profits made from each event
- Records were not detail enough to know exact cost/revenue for each event as many supplies were shared and purchased at odd times. Going forward, more distinct records will be kept.
- A report was shared with the total FOSL balance each month from January through December 2025. Indicated on the report were each of the major events held by FOSL. Click here to access the FOSL end of year report.
Extra Bits
- Can we get a FOSL bulletin board added to the library entrence? This might be a possibility when the Freedge gets put in place.
- Valentine & Wine 2026
- We still haven’t settled on a name. Have a community contest for name the event, and winner gets 2 free tickets
- Dessert dash should be considered
- Early talks of dropping the 2nd movie in the park for 2026. Replacement could be a larger holiday-based movie event later in the year, and/or potentially partnering with other community groups
- Matinee and evening showing?
- Pre-buy tickets
- For events, we need to better coordinate with the city. Particularly for event needs, like power & bathroom access during movie in the park
- Many city-run events (fishing derby, Santa in the park, etc.) are in danger of being dropped. FOSL is already stretched thin so we can’t take them on
- We need to do a better job at communicating expectations for event volunteers, and having defined roles during setup
- FOSL is floating the idea of having an online storefront. There is caution about taking on more than we can handle so the idea is shelved for now
- Considering making custom FOSL stickers specific to events; we have a discount coupon from a prior order that is good until May 2026
- The group seemed VERY excited by this idea!
- County Advisory groups are coming up, including flood control district for this area
- December 24th Christmas Dinner - Talk to Cayla if interested in helping
- Escape room event! Maybe sometime in the future
Next Meeting
- Next meeting to take place on Monday, Jan 5, 2026 at the Sumas Library from 6:30 until roughly 7:30 pm
- Finalize 2026 event calendar
- Plan
