Information about donations, volunteering, and other ways to support Friends of the Sumas Library.
There are countless ways to contribute to Friends of the Sumas Library. This page goes over a few options, but if you have an idea of how you can contribute that isn’t listed, please reach out! We would love to hear your ideas.
Financial Contributions
FOSL needs funds to keep carrying out our mission. If you would like to directly contribute, we take digital donations through PayPal (no account required). If you would like to donate cash or through a different method, reach out to FOSL or stop by the Sumas Library.
Volunteer Contributions
Here is where things open up. FOSL is much more than attending meetings and showing up to help run events. To be clear, we NEED both of those things. The best way to directly contribute to our long term success is simply to show up. Show up to plan, show up to run stuff, show up to reflect on what we can do better next time. However, not everybody can do that. Don’t worry, there are still plenty of other ways to help. If you are an “expert” in any field and would like to apply your skills, we want it!
Here is a quick list of things we need people to help with:
- Help FOSL run their social media on Facebook (and set up on other platforms?)
- Be an event photographer, we are terrible at taking pictures!
- Write for our blog. Articles could include community highlights, book/movie/game reviews, or whatever else aligns with our community-focused, library-centric goals
- Design event posters, flyers, and handouts
- Write event descriptions
- Reach out to local businesses for support
Business Contributions
FOSL is looking for longterm partnerships with local community-minded businesses. Here are the current needs:
- Fund movie in the park. Just the license to be allowed to show a movie is ~$550. This is a lot for our small group, and we would love to find a long term partner to subsidize our licensing fees and help offset the cost of our concessions. The goal is for everything, including movie treats, to be free for our community.
- Provide prizes for BINGO and our Spring Adult Social fundraiser
Our needs go beyond this small list, these are just the immediate needs. If you have connections with local businesses (or are a local business) we would love your support.
