D. Old Business

End of Summer Reading Celebration Carnival Recap
- People felt it was a successful event even if not as many people came as last year. It was very hot this year.
- Had many passive events which seemed like a good way to do things - magnetic fishing was a bit hit again this year. Other passive events included a duck toss, paper airplane making (not a big hit), guess how many game
- Face painting didn’t happen because the company double booked. Company refunded the money, and also volunteered to be at the Minecraft movie for free for 2 hours.
- Middle of the day was least attended.
  - Next year should have a specific time frame for event rather than all day. Was just too long, too hot and didn’t get enough people all at the same time. Agreement that 3 hours is enough time, afternoon probably best.
- Pie in the Face cancelled this year. Suggestion to have this as a 15 minute event for Sumas Days or Movie in the Park.
- Might want to have a big event (ie in Everson had a pinata at 2pm) in the middle of the event or at towards the end to draw people for a specific time. Maybe free cotton candy for the first X number of people (rather than for everyone)
- had a library scanvenger hunt in the gift bags that were handed out. Possibly expand on this next year, but maybe have a prize (rubber ducks?)
Movie in the Park: Minecraft Movie, Sept 5
- Sarah and Brett will get movie and food on Thursday
- sell raffle tickets for basket: Minecraft Movie, candy/popcorn, stickers, maybe gift card, etc.
- cotton candy prep on Thursday at Brett and Sarah’s - 6pm. Will also make red vines into Minecraft TNT sticks
- Friday set-up begins at 5:30pm.
- Face painter to be there 5:30pm - 7:30pm
- Ballistic Brew created drink list especially for movie. All drinks come with glowing “ice cube”
- Music will be played before the movie. For announcements, give Brett a list
- Need more trash cans/dumpsters. Nancy will talk to City about getting more trash cans out in park.
- Need cookers - Cayla and Paul will bring some.

E. New Business

thank you card received from Christine Perkins (WCLS Executive Director) for FOSL helping spread the word for the levy lift which passed this past Aug. 5
Update to by-laws
- Will be voted on at October meeting. Can view draft by-laws on FOSL website.
- Will also vote for 2 new board members at October meeting: President and Secretary. If you would like to run for one of these positions, please talk to a current FOSL board member, library staff Paul Fullner or Cayla Samms, or email info@friendsofthesumaslibrary.org
  - Per new by-laws (pending approval) term of 3 years for each board position, staggered yearly as follows:
    - President, Secretary - October 2025
    - Vice President - October 2026
    - Treasurer - October 2027
  - Other things to note on by-laws:
    - No term limits (ie can run for position as many times as like)
    - Vice President does not automatically become President
    - Elected in October and begin shadowing predecessor. Official duties begin January of following year.
