Movie in the Park (Sept 5) recap
-
Attendance
- fewer people than at 1st movie, but this was the same situation as last year (1st movie seems to do better). Concessions were $866 at first movie, $578 at second
- other events at the same time (were not public when FOSL chose date): 1st game of NVHS football season, Youth rodeo event, Christian event
-
Movie
-
Movie choice was maybe not appropriate for all ages, but was selected by the community. Suggested that in the future FOSL pick both movies or at the very least vet the movies better. Classic movies seem to be popular (see attendance) and may end up being cheaper for licensing.
-
Should we continue to do 2 summer movies? Discussion about whether to have one movie in summer, then another in winter, possibly at Sumas Elementary. Would need to find out how much it would be to rent this space out.
-
Other
-
Face painting - seemed to be hit. Was free to FOSL due to a scheduling conflict perviously. Not sure if it is worth having since it is a few hundred dollars but can reassess for next movie.
-
Bathrooms were closed prior to movie starting. Probably due to them always being closed by City personnel at dusk, but we were not explicit in asking them to remain open.
-
No power at courts. We needed to run extension cords from the History Museum.
Suggested for future movies to give them a specific checklist of needs for our event:- Power need on basketball courts
- Lights kept on for basketball courts until a given specific time (will change depending on the time of year of the movie)
- Bathrooms remain unlocked until after movie over
- Additional trash cans at movie location
-
-
-
E. New Business
-
By-laws- ratify the changes: new by-laws presented (they have also been available on FOSL website for the past few weeks). By-laws passed with no changes 9 in favor, 0 against
-
Nomination and election of President and Secretary to take office in January
- President nomination: Sarah Egbert
- Secretary nomination: Brett Egbert
- Vote: both officers approved unanimously
-
Fall BINGO Nov 10th at Senior Center
-
1st time we did fall bingo we had 90+ people. Will need to cap the number of people coming to play. Doors will open at 6:30 pm, games start at 7pm.
-
No bake sale this year. May have water or other drinks (no decision on whether to give these out or charge for them)
-
Nancy has a large board that shows the BINGO numbers so they can be blocked off and easily seen by attendees and checkers
-
Have multiple volunteers to help check off winners using the board so games can flow quicker
-
Discussion regarding games and prizes. Will solicit donation and money for prizes from local businesses. Preference is for money or donations that promote the community/local businesses/Sumas. Samantha will distribute flyers for solicitations to businesses and do a post on social media asking for donations. Donation deadline Oct. 31.
- For Edaleen, need to go to the main store rather than the Sumas store
- Ask businesses to donate smaller amounts of gift cards (ie Bob’s rather than 1 $50 card, maybe 2 $25s or 2 $20 and 1 $10)
-
For games: do not make the grids to difficult (crazy patterns, etc). Will probably do single line winners and maybe blackout. Will reset games based on either time (ie every 15 minutes) or number of winners (every 5 winners). Will determine exact reset rules at Nov. FOSL meeting.
-
Winners will receive a ticket. Prizes will be sorted by number of tickets needed to claim prize. This allows people to save tickets (or combine) for larger items.
