D. Old Business
Fishing derby bake sale on June 1:
- Brett and Sarah reported that it was a rainy day, so being under the pavilion didn’t work well since people weren’t really walking around much.
- Sarah and Brett set up out of the trunk of their car, but didn’t have many sales (!$10 worth). Asked if it was worth doing again next year, they thought it would be dependent on the rain. And maybe they should have cornhole there so people who are not fishing could do something else.
Cornhole boards:
- have been made by Alan and brought to the library.
- They were out today and used by people.
E. New Business
Sumas Days planning:
- Space has been reserved for FOSL and the library (one spot each) and Fosl (the dinosaur mascot) will be in the parade along with the WCLS Bookmobile.
- While Deanna is in her costume for the parade, Brett and Sarah will walk in the parade as well as “dino wranglers” to keep Deanna safe.
- Deanna showed the foot and glove/claw of the Fosl costume she is making. After the parade, people can take pictures with Fosl at the FOSL booth.
- Sarah will make a backdrop for taking photos, but people can use their phones for the photos (rather than FOSL figure out a way to take photos, print them, and get them to people).
- There will also be a dinosaur dig at the FOSL tent as well. Nancy will purchase small dinosaurs and embed them in a mixture that will harden over a few days. Kids can then dig the items out and keep them.
- Fees for both FOSL and the library to have a booth at Sumas Days have been waived, but FOSL will donate $250 to Chamber for fireworks. Deanna will drop the money to City Hall.
Movies in the Park:
-
Dates: Friday, July 26 & Friday, August 23rd
-
final plans at July meeting, sign-up for volunteers to go out soon after the meeting. Looking for others besides the main group attending the meeting to help out.
-
The July showing will be “A Goofy Movie” a Disney production from the 1990s.
-
For the August movie, people will get to vote on which movie will be shown. Final details for this coming at July meeting.
-
Cayla will get estimate for costs of the following movies:
- A Goofy Movie
- Minions movies
- Boss Baby
- Home
- Captain Underpants
- Diary of a Wimpy Kid
- Wallace and Gromit
- Shaun the Sheep
-
Samantha will start looking into grants to cover the cost of the movies, etc., but FOSL has enough money to cover them if needed.
-
Concession-wise, Nancy would like to also add hot dogs to the line-up of items (candy, popcorn and drinks are what has been in the past). Lizette says FOSL can use the hot dog cooker/warmer which holds about 50 hot dogs.
-
Lizette also suggested that the movie location potentially be moved. There is an open field next to the Museum, so it could be held there, which would also allow access to a fridge and a microwave (for heating up hot dogs before being put in the cooker/warmer).
-
Other ideas about location are to try to movie the screen a different way to allow for more seating.
F. Community News
-
Brett asked that FOSL members visit the FOSL website and scroll to the bottom to the page to find the “Update Member Info” link and add/update their info for the website. You can tell as much or little as you’d like.
-
Brett is going to do a website refresh and would like feedback on any updates or changes you’d like to see, or if you think there is additional info that should be added
-
Merch:
- Brett suggested FOSL start selling items at events.
- FOSL shirts will be kept for FOSL members who are volunteering at events (Brett & Sarah currently have these).
- Cayla will find out what we paid for the items, but current plan is to sell stickers for $4 each and bags for $15 or $20.
- Might also purchase some reading/book stickers from Amazon to sell.
- In the future, may also create shirts with Fosl the dino on it to sell.
-
Sumas Newsletter will be for July & August – FOSL will get info in there about the movies – either Cayla will add it or Samantha will create something for it.
-
Nancy wants a gavel – Brett will look into it.
G. Next Meeting
- Meeting concluded at 7:30pm
- Next meeting on Monday, July 1st
