D. Old Business
Spring Cleaning Bingo:
fun, learned a lot.
30 – 50 people in attendance, but not nearly as good as previous bingo night. Possible ideas why: moved night from Thursday to Friday, Spring Break week, other local conflicts (Legion burger night, baseball).
Prize table for under 12 was a hit.
Samantha, Brett and Sarah thought it was nice to have it a bit smaller.
Sound system worked well and saved Samantha’s voice.
Thanks to church for letting FOSL use the gym at no cost.
Believe FOSL can only have 2 bingo nights per fiscal year, but Samantha’s reading of the regulations is that FOSL can have more than 2 because they are not collecting any money and bringing an item might fall more into a white elephant gift. As for prizes, that is ok if the item is donated (no money) but gift cards are a gray area and still unsure about them. Potential idea is to partner with the Legion for fall bingo as they have a location and a group of people who regularly attend on Friday burger nights.
Spring Cleaning dinner & bake sale:
Brett said all went well, mostly because it was a smaller group. Would probably have been more difficult with a larger group of people attending.
The kitchen space was adequate but there was only 1 outlet and it was difficult to tell what could be used because the area is undergoing renovations.
Potluck was by donation, bake sale had priced items.
Downtown Clean-Up Day:
collected 1 ton of garbage.
Word got out about cleaning up as there were people that showed up to help that were not previously known
Coloring contest:
“cool event” for the awards, Mayor Bosch attended and Brett took some pictures.
Samantha called the winners – parents were excited their kids won.
All entries displayed in the windows of the library, but the event/winners was not publicized by Lynden Tribune (they were not contacted).
Didn’t pan out financially, as only 33 households participated. Ideas for next year include a coloring contest event where attendees spend their time coloring at the event.
E. New Business
Fishing Derby:
put on by the American Legion in Sumas.
In past FOSL has had a bake sale and also sold chips and other drinks.
Date this year is Saturday, June 1.
Sarah and Brett are willing to head up the bake sale again.
Cornhole game purchase:
these have been made by Allen, he just had a bit more to do. Hoping to get them in the next few weeks.
Sumas Days:
Fosl the dinosaur will be introduce to the community in the parade – Deanna will be Fosl, Brett and Sarah will be the dinosaur wranglers.
Library bookmobile will be in the parade as well.
FOSL are still considering ideas for a booth (dinosaur dig, photos with Fosl, watermelon…)
Board positions changing in June: Nancy Coyler is incoming President, Deanna Lambert taken
over as Treasurer
