D. Old Business
- Santa in the Park - Sumas City event at City Park on Monday, December 2 from 6 - 7:30pm. This is the same day as the regually scheduled FOSL meeeting, so FOSL meeting moved to Wed. Dec. 4th. “Santa’s Bake Shop” will have treats and cotton candy for sale. Sarah and Brett Egbert will be at event, unsure who else can attend.. Two different bags of cotton candy: blue (blue raspberry) and white (white citrus) or red (cherry) and green (watermelon). Cotton candy bagging party will be either Saturday Nov. 30th (afternoon/evening) or Sunday, Dec. 1st afternoon/evening.
Cotton candy seems to be a hit, so FOSL will try to purchase their own machine before Movies in the Park in summer of 2025 (have been borrowing machine from Nooksack Valley school boosters). - Winter Decor at Library - Meg K. will do this. Unsure of date at this time.
- Cozy Winter Week at Library - Dec. 30th - Jan 4rd. Sarah will provide baked goods that Mon and Saturday (library closed on Wednesday, Jan 1 due to New Years Day) . Library staff will put out coffee, tea and hot chocolate packets along with the treats.
E. New Business
-
Christine Perkins, WCLS Executive Director discussion levy lid lift. WCLS is a taxing district and can ask for up $ .50/$1,000 of a home’s assessed tax value. The current taxing rate is $.26/$1,000 which is not enough for WCLS to maintain the current levels of service and staffing. This is the 2nd year in a row that WCLS has projected a budget shortfall. Due to this, it is likely the WCLS board will approve a levy lid lift to be put on the ballot for some time in 2025. WCLS has not had a levy lid lift on the ballot for 16 years.
