D. Old Business
Winter decor taken down and stored in the shed at the side of the library. Pansies or other flowers will be purchased to brighten up the front planter pots. Meg has purchased the light therapy lamp and will bring it to the library. (Update since meeting: this has been done)
Sumas Library Patron Drive. FOSL will send out 6”x9” mailer to residents of Sumas including those with PO Boxes. Mailer will highlight some upcoming library programs, have library hours and FOSL contact info, and Facebook links for both FOSL and the library. The main part of the mailer will be a coloring contest (coloring page designed by Deanna and Heather Lambert) featuring the new FOSL mascot, a stegosaurus named Fosl. Quote for price of the postage for mailer is about $200, printing/prep is another $300. Cash prizes will be awarded for the coloring contest in 5 age-based categories. FOSL members may participate but not win the contest. Juding is done by a non-FOSL member – Meg will contact an artist she knows about being the judge. Winners will be posted on the FOSL website and Facebook page, which will be shared on the Sumas Library Facebook page as well.
FOSL Website Update: website has been updated with actual information, not just a placeholder. Brett would like to officially decide on a domain name (https://friendsofthesumaslibrary.org/ was decided as name, and Brett purchased following the meeting). As a non-profit, we can use Google Workspace for free, will provide an email address like info@friendsofthesumaslibrary.org, and storage for everything. Brett will look into this and be the digital guy to keep everything organized and everyone updated.
E. New Business
April 5 spring cleaning BINGO night: attendees will bring and unopened cleaning product or item used in cleaning to get a Bingo card. Doors will open at 6:00 pm, with games beginning at 6:30pm. Refreshments will be available for purchase – this may be hot dogs, or popcorn or chips (still TBD). Paul will contact the Health Department regarding any rules for hot dogs, etc. There will also be a bake sale coordinated by Brett and Sarah and will include info on how to package items, etc and request form. FOSL has all the supplies for the games, except for stampers. The ones last time did not work so a new solution must be found. Bruce will provide a sound system. A new location other than the Community Center will be found so that more people can attend - Judy will talk to the Reformed Church about using the gym.
April 6 Downtown Clean-Up Day: From 9am – 12pm. FOSL will provide garbage bags, gloves, coffee and breakfast treats. Meg will reach out to local youth groups at Advent and Valley Church to participate in clean-up. Other suggestions of places to promote clean up is: Boomtown reader board, Facebook pages, flyers @ Sumas Drug, email Nicole at Loca Mocha, City of Sumas newsletter.
April 8 Spring Movie Night: postponed for now due to too many other events happening at the same time. Also, WCLS Youth Services department had some concerns due to it being a closed- door teen movie night.
April 7 – 13 National Library Week Ideas: nothing submitted at this meeting. Paul mentioned that Library Giving Day will be Wednesday April 3.
